HAPPY CHILDRENS DAY - by Obed Khan (Vowel Education Academy)
Children
Day or Bal Diwas, in Hindi, is a day when students across schools in India
indulge in various recreational activities and merrymaking. Children’s Day is
celebrated in India as a tribute to Jawaharlal Nehru who was born on November
14, 1889. The day continues to be a special for children as they are showered
with gifts, and more importantly, a lot of attention.
However, before India’s independence in
1947, Children’s Day was celebrated on November 20, the day observed by the United
Nations as universal Children’s Day. But after Nehru’s death in 1964,
it was unanimously decided to celebrate Children’s Day on the birthday of the
first Prime Minister as a tribute to his love for children.
The day emphasises on the importance of
giving love, attention and affection to children. “The children of today will
make the India of tomorrow. The way we bring them up will determine the future
of the country,” said Nehru. The main purpose of this day is to encourage the
welfare of children all over the country.
And Teachers have a great responsibility
and opportunity to make our students contributors to the welfare of our country
India, not only as excellent performers but even as good, morally upright, kind
and exemplary humanbeings. Today, on Children’s day we re-examine our
commitment towards achieving this Goal. Happy Children’s Day from VOWEL
